I first met Dr Philip Bennett and his team in March 2010, having opened the Marshwood Vale magazine and seen their advertisement.  For the past twenty years my teeth had become progressively more crooked and decayed, prompting Phil to state "You are going to give me some sleepless nights".  My confidence was low, with me rarely smiling.

The first thing that struck me regarding the dentistry was the feeling of belonging; all patients were treated like family.  The customer service was exemplary which immediately put you at ease.  There were no pretensions and any questions happily answered.  Phil asked what treatment ideally I would like done.  Jokingly I replied "all my teeth replaced please".  Two weeks later Phil came back with a recommendation: implants.  All my teeth were to be extracted and replaced by temporary bridges until the implants were healed.  This operation would take five hours and involved an anaesthetist, and a team of nurses.  I was thoroughly briefed by Phil and asked my opinion at every step, enabling me to understand any difficulties I might face (No alcohol for a month being one).

After the operation, I was provided with a bag of goodies, including a lavender hot pack, medication, strict instructions regarding rehabilitation and even Phil's home number.  Every last detail had been considered, with a timetable of further treatment laid out.  Throughout my convalescence I had no bruising to the face, Phil having warned that I would experience some swelling due to the procedure, and was ready for the next step in three weeks.

With the initial healing process complete, I attended the surgery monthly where Phil monitored the implants and how the gums were adapting.  Casts and photographs were taken to ensure that my final set of teeth would have the exact bite radius and size for my mouth.  So precise was Phil, we had about four sets made until he was completely satisfied, even down to the whiteness to complement my skin tone.

The whole process took nine months, and never did I feel uninformed or frustrated.  The entire team are complete professionals, treating each person as an individual and not a number.  They have changed my life, an old cliche, but an extremely valid one in this case.  I now have greater confidence, my face has a more defined structure and I laugh a lot.

Now in December, and having reviewed the photographs (kindly sent to me), of my operation and subsequent treatment, I realise what Phil and the team achieved.  I have no hesitation in recommending Lyme Bay Dentistry from which I still receive regular courtesy calls and attend the hygienist.  To everyone at the surgery, Thank You again.

It is now six weeks since my dental implant treatment was completed, thank you, thank you, thank you!

My life has changed.  I can now eat, smile and taste food.  Also I am unaware my teeth are false and am now, at last, putting on weight.  My only regret is that I did not know about implants years ago.
